The Canadian Council on Africa Renews Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Natural Resources Canada

Canadian Council on Africa (CCAfrica) is pleased to announce the renewal of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Natural Resources Canada confirming the coordination role of CCAfrica in strengthening the official Canadian presence at Mining Indaba and in promoting the Canadian leadership in the sustainable extraction of natural resources in Africa. 

 

“CCAfrica and Natural Resources Canada have worked closely together since 2012 when the first MoU was singed, in managing Canada’s presence at Mining Indaba and the renewal of the MOU is a tangible recognition of the Council’s efforts and successes in this endeavor.  The signing of this MOU as a further tool in the promotion of the Canadian leadership and contribution to the economic and sustainable growth in Africa’s extractive industry, a goal the two organizations support“, said Mr. Gauthier.

 

The signing of this MOU launches an enhanced collaboration that includes financial, technical and advisory support for the official Canadian (governmental and private sector) delegation to Mining indaba for a new period of five years.

 

“The CCAfrica-NRCan partnership supports the Government of Canada’s efforts, through events such as Mining Indaba, to showcase Canada as a global leader in sustainable resource development and to assist Africa-based companies to access Canadian expertise in mining exploration, environmental management, finance and technical services.  The renewal of our MoU will help us to continue to build on our success,” confirmed Ms. Marian Campbell Jarvis, Assistant Deputy Minister, Minerals and Metals Sector, Natural Resources Canada.

Cooperation under this MOU is expected to result in a multi-stakeholder Canadian presence at Indaba, including a highly visible presence on the Indaba exhibition floor and a program of relevant Canadian-hosted events on key themes.

Le Conseil canadien pour l’Afrique (CCAfrique) est heureux d’annoncer la reconduction du Protocole d’Entente avec Ressources naturelles Canada confirmant le rôle de coordinateur de CCAfrique dans le renforcement de la présence officielle canadienne à Mining Indaba et la projection du leadership canadien dans l’exploitation durable des ressources naturelles du continent africain. 

 

« CCAfrique et Ressources naturelles Canada ministère ont coopéré très étroitement depuis 2012, suite à la signature du premier Protocole, dans la gestion de la présence du Canada à Mining Indaba et le renouvellement de ce Protocole d’Entente est un témoignage certain des efforts et succès de CCAfrique dans ce domaine.  La signature de ce Protocole fournit de nouveaux outils pour la promotion de la contribution et du leadership du Canada dans la croissance économique et durable de l’industrie extractive africaine, un objectif partagé par les deux organisations, » a dit Jean Gauthier.

 

La signature du Protocole signale une collaboration renouvelée qui inclut un appui financier, technique et consultatif pour soutenir la délégation officielle canadienne (gouvernementale et du secteur privé) lors de Mining Indaba.  L’entente est d’une durée de cinq ans. 

 

« Le partenariat CCAfrique-NRCan, entre autre dans le cadre de Mining Indaba, appuie les efforts du Canada pour promouvoir le Canada comme un leader dans le développement durable des ressources et pour aider les compagnies canadiennes œuvrant en Afrique à accéder l’expertise canadienne dans l’exploration minière, la gestion environnementale, le financement et les services techniques.  Le renouvellement du Protocole aidera à poursuivre dans la foule des récents succès, » a confirmé Madame Marian Campbell Jarvis, Sous-ministre adjointe, Secteur des Minéraux et métaux à Ressources naturelles Canada. 

Ce Protocole prévoit une collaboration qui devrait mener à une présence multidisciplinaire canadienne à Indaba, comprenant entre autres une présence très visible tant sur le plancher d’exposition que lors des activités thématiques du Canada à Indaba.
