SUMMARY:AFRICA HUB AT THE TORONTO INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL - TIFF 2024
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_tabs][vc_tab tab_id=”1719233941093-9″ title=”AFRICA HUB”][vc_column_text] \nThe Canadian Council on Africa (CCAfrica) in collaboration with the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) and African Women Acting (AWA)\, is delighted to host the second edition of the AFRICA HUB at the 49th annual Toronto International Film Festival from September 5-15\, 2024.\nAFRICA HUB at TIFF will be a platform and meeting place for: \n\nCanadians to showcase Canadian capabilitiesin terms of how the African film industry in partnership with their Canadian counterparts can benefit from it.\n\nCanada has a robust film industry of over US $11.69 Billion in total volume of film and television production (Canadian Media Producers Association (CMPA) profile 2022 Economic report);\nWith its lucrative incentive programs\, advantageous tax credits\, varied locations and attractive discounts on the US dollar\, Canada offers some of the most desirable production opportunities and facilities in the world;\nCanada’s expertise in film production\, post-production\, advanced industry technologies\, highly trained crews\, film education\, financing mechanisms\, is second to none;\nDentons’ Producing in Canadareport (November 2023) stated that “Canada is recognized as a major player in film\, television and interactive digital media production. The growth of Canada’s multibillion-dollar production industry is attributable to our high-standard facilities\, competent workforce\, physical and cultural proximity to the United States (US)\, and many favorable economic factors. These include lower location and production costs than in the US and Europe\, a good exchange rate\, and advantageous government tax incentives and funding policies.”\n\n\n\n\nAfricans to highlight the undiscovered African untapped potential in film\, television\, and interactive digital production.\n\nAccording to the UNESCO report “The African Film Industry Trends\, Challenges and Opportunities for Growth\, 2021”\, it states that the film and audiovisual industry in Africa has the potential to create over 20 million jobs and generate US$20 billion in revenues per year for the African economies. This is largely due to the widespread use of new technologies\, the affordability of digital film equipment\, and the rise of online platforms which are enabling a new generation of African filmmakers to emerge.\nThe significant rise in the African film industry\, as an example Nollywood\, the Nigerian film industry\, is the third largest centre of film production in the world (producing 2500 films annually) after Hollywood (USA) and Bollywood (India).\nAfrica\, the second largest continent\, is also the youngest continent in the world. In 2022\, the mean age was 18.8 years old. It is being said that by the year 2030\, young Africans are expected to make up 42% of the world’s youth\, which represents significant future consumer markets.\nThe African film industry is looking for partners with technical expertise\, equipment / technologies\, and skills like post-production which Canada is one the world’s leaders.
